Claude Code

Updated 4 August 2026

Claude Code is what the professionals use, and that is exactly why founders should pay attention to it. The app builders give you a padded cockpit with two buttons. Claude Code hands you the actual controls, then flies alongside you. This site, including the 3D flight simulator hiding on it, was built with it.

What it is

Claude Code is an AI agent from Anthropic that builds software from plain-English instructions. The difference from prompt-to-app builders is depth: it works in a real project, plans multi-step work, writes and rewrites code, runs your app, reads the errors and fixes them. You describe outcomes ("people should be able to book a slot and pay a deposit") and it does the engineering, showing its work as it goes.

What it is genuinely good at

Where it falls over

What it costs

Included in Claude subscriptions, from roughly the price of two coffees a month to premium tiers for heavy daily use. A standard plan covers a prototype build comfortably. Check current pricing at anthropic.com.

Getting started in an afternoon

  1. Take a Claude subscription and install Claude Code (the instructions on anthropic.com take minutes).
  2. Make an empty folder for your project and open Claude Code in it.
  3. Describe the smallest version of your product as an outcome: "a page where someone enters their email to join a waitlist, and I can see the list". Let it build and run that before you mention feature two.
  4. Ask it to show you the app running, click around, and describe what to change in plain English.
  5. Ask it to save your progress with git each time something works. You do not need to understand git; you need restore points.

Three tips that save beginners a week: ask it to plan before it builds ("tell me your plan first, then wait for my go-ahead"), because steering a plan is easier than unpicking code. Paste errors in whole and unedited. And keep sessions on one topic; a fresh conversation per feature keeps it sharp.

That is enough to build something real. The gap between that and building the right thing quickly, how to structure a project so the agent stays reliable, what to test, what to fake, and when to stop building and start selling, is the craft. That is what Flight School exists for.

The verdict for founders

If you have the patience for one afternoon of setup and two weeks of learning the craft, Claude Code gives a non-technical founder more real capability than anything else on the market: proper software, proper ownership, no ceiling you will hit during validation. If you want zero learning curve, start with an app builder like Lovable and graduate later. Either way, the expensive mistake is the same one it has always been: building the wrong thing well. Pick the tool second. Pick the question your prototype must answer first.

Common questions

What is Claude Code?

Claude Code is Anthropic's AI coding agent. You tell it what you want in plain English and it plans the work, writes and edits real code across a whole project, runs it, tests it and fixes its own mistakes. It is the tool developers themselves use, which makes it more powerful and less hand-holding than app builders like Lovable.

Can I use Claude Code without knowing how to code?

Yes, with a caveat. You do not need to write code, but you need to be comfortable with a small amount of setup and willing to learn a handful of concepts. Founders who make that small climb get far more capability than any no-code tool offers. Founders who want zero friction should start with an app builder instead.

How much does Claude Code cost?

It is included in Claude subscription plans, which cost from around 20 dollars a month up to premium tiers for heavy use. For prototype building, a standard plan is usually plenty. Pricing changes, so check anthropic.com for current numbers.

Is Claude Code better than Lovable or Cursor?

They are different crafts. Lovable is the easiest way to get a standard web app without touching code. Cursor is an editor for people who want to see and edit the code themselves. Claude Code sits in between and beyond, an agent that does the work while you direct it. Which is right depends on your idea and your appetite for a small learning curve.
